Beggars Group research

Beggars' roots stem from the Beggars Banquet record shops, which first opened in 1973 with a record shop in Earls court, London. In 1977, spurred by the prevailing DIY aesthetics of the British punk rock movement (then at the height of its popularity), the shop founders decided to join the fray as an independent label and release records as Beggars Banquet Records, which became the group's flagship label and namesake. Martin Mills, who is an advocate for independent label rights, is the Owner and Manager of Beggars group. On the official site there is a page dedicated to supporting small independent record shops. It includes locations and names of them, including 'Rough Trade' which is located on Beak Street in London.

Rough Trade is also one of the record labels that come under the Beggars Group: they own a 50% stake in this This is an example of vertical integration as the record label also has business in the distribution of the music as well as the production. The shop offers competitions and give aways (as seen in photo below). For example 'Cambridge audio turntable givesway'. These enagage the audience

Horizontal intergration can be seen as they own 50% of Rough Trade, Matador and XL recordings (which owns 50% of Young), as well as 100% of 4AD and their in-house publishing company Beggars Music. They have expanded their ownership of music production companies and have created a strong family of the 'most respected independent labels' ( which cover a range of 'underground' music genres).
Beggars has also been a pioneer in the digital world. They not only distribute online, they have a social media presence that helps created brand identity that appeals to GenZs. Posts include commitments to being 'carbon negative'. GenZ is well known for their modern proactive views, especially when it comes to the environment and the earth. The impacts from older generations is affecting the possibility of them having a future and being able to raise a family.

They have instagram pages for each of the labels they own: Matador records having the most followers at 199K
